Hi, I see these guys making these beeeeutiful laminated necks and then they lay a templet on the side to mark out the position of the necks, where do you get the templets? do you make them? thanks, Red 

I made my own. I bet John Watkins could make you one if you don't want to.

a template is a very easy thing to make yourself. thin plywood, hardboard, mdf, plastic, sheet metal, dense card stock; all will work well. i prefer plastic or thin birch ply.

a few minutes with a pencil or marking knife, a ruler and a protractor is all that is necessary to lay it out. then cut on the bandsaw or whatever.

obviously, different templates make laying out different scale length necks easier, but it is possible to use one template with index marks or pins to lay out different scale lengths so long as the other details are the same, but this may make errors easier to creep in.

I prefer 1/2" Birch plywood too. Used oak plywood once but the open grain is difficult to draw fine lines on.

What I dont like about MDF is that it can break. I use two-sided carpet tape to attach templates and they require some force to remove.
